A guy like this is at the entrance to most churches. He´s always a man, and has flames licking up at him. Usually there is some writing below about sinners... Sorry it´s so blurry. I am taking better pictures now!
Don´t you love this guy? In many churches, you see indigenous images mixed in to make the people feel at home. They are often like putti, but with Indian faces.
Since it was May, there were tons of flowers around the virgin. (They really do Marypalooza right in Mexico!). At this church, near Cholula, and a couple of others, there were big piles of flower petals, and shapes made of flower petals by Mary. It smelled wonderful.
In many churches, there is a saint or Mary above the altar instead of a crucifix. Since this church is dedicated to the virgin, she is here above the altar.
