And you think it´s hard to find a job in the states? Here the standard job application includes all sorts of stuff you can´t imagine! You have to list age, weight, height, who lives with you, how much debt you have, and a picture! Want ads are unbelievable. They advertise for age and sex, and how good looking you are. Apparently, it´s very hard to get a job after 40, and there are lots of people working at whatever they can get. There are some unions. In the teachers´union, if you get a place there, you can leave it to your brother or niece, or whomever, regardless of whether or not they are qualified to teach, and they can have the job!
The best paying jobs here are at Volkswagon. This is where they make the beetle, and they made the old one here until a couple of years ago....

After all the stuff you have to put on a job application, I wonder how they make the decisions. The "legacy" idea in jobs is frightening. Does anyone ever get fired? What would you have to do to actually LOSE your job?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it´s purely personal. I don´t know if people get fired, but I think lots of people live with their families because they can´t afford to live on their own. Lots of people also travel far to get to work in the city. Yuk.
ReplyDeleteSo job hunting in the US is better? I wonder how often judgments are made on the same things but just not advertised as such. If you can have a legacy job, I wonder if you can sell it? Hey, is this your mid-point?
ReplyDeleteI guess it is a more even playing field, except we all know that age and weight and stuff like that play roles anyway. I don´t think anyone sells the jobs, but maybe. Lots of things are corrupt here.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I´d look forward to looking for a job at home...
