Anything to get my picture taken

At the convent of Sta. Monica, they made portraits of the nuns after they died. Most all the other pictures around the convent were of men. When they died, these nuns were painted with a crown of flowers, a branch of flowers and a crucifix. This is amazing. My friend Rebecca snuck the picture of the portrait.

Shrine of Guadalupe

This is the big, modern basilica. When you go inside, you go past the serape with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe on a conveyor belt!

This is a big clock tower thing. Don't know what it's for. It had a big Aztec symbol on the side. Something for everyone.
This statue shows Indians bringing offerings to the Virgin. It's in a beautiful garden.

Harry Potter, eat your heart out

These really great brooms are what the street sweepers use to clean the streets in Mexico. I thought they were so cool, and they are made by hand out of twigs. They work really well, and they look lovely. Tried to put one in the overhead bin. It wouldn't fit.

Groovy bus, with granny squares!

This bus was the landmark to our hotel in Mexico City. It was on one edge of the square. What a great piece of art!
It had crocheted, granny square bumpers! Or are those fenders?
It also had Asian writing on it. Korean? Go figure!

Dolores Olmedo was quite a broad

The Museo Dolores Olmedo is on the south side of Mexico City, near Xochimilcho... kind of. She was a wealthy woman who was politically and socially active. She bought this beautiful ranch, and now it's a museum. It has the biggest collection of Frida Kahlo art anywhere, and lots of Diego Rivera works too. No pictures of the art here, but lots of the beautiful grounds!

This is a statue of the rare Mexican hairless dogs that live there. I did not pet them.

Here is another pretty bird. I couldn't stop taking pictures of them. And friendly.

Taxco

We went to Taxco for an overnight... it's about 2 1/2 hours from Mexico City. It's just beautiful, with red tile roofs and twisty, hilly streets. Lots of cars steaming up and down the hills. Mufflers? not so much. We stayed at a hotel off the Zocalo. This is the view from our room.
